At the top of the world

19.6.19/ 3.7.19

On May the 22nd Gillian Lee, an Australian Mountaineer almost reached the summit of Everest without using an air tank. Gil climbed on the North side of the Tibet Route because the easier way up Mount Everest was a human traffic jam of two to three hundred climbers.

Because Gillian Lee was 7600m high he was in the death zone. His lips began to turn blue and he was constantly coughing really badly. His body shut down and he passed out for three hours. Luckily he had two Sherpa guides to help him. The guides carried Gil down and placed him in his tent, rubbing both hands and grabbing as many hot water bottles as they could.

The two guides made a sled out of a mat and dragged him down. At 6000m they met a Chinese rope fixing team. The team offered to help and continued to slide him down the snow-covered the mountain. When the snow ran out they strapped Gil onto a yak to   the way to base camp which took six hours. Once they got to base camp Gil was put onto a helicopter to Kathmandu Hospital in Nepal.

Gils mum visited Gillian at the hospital. She was absolutely furious at him for putting the two Sherpas and himself in danger.
Will Gillian Lee try to climb Mount Everest again without an oxygen tank?

Why we should ban fizzy drinks

Why Fizzy drinks should be banned

Introduction
In todays speech I will be telling you some  main reasons why I think Fizzy drinks should be banned.  I will talk about how much sugar is in fizzy and how bad it is for your health.  As well as how fizzy drinks such as sprite, Coke-cola, L&P, and Jolly drinks and other types of fizzy bottles are flooding our planet with pollution.

The first reason we should ban fizzy drinks is that they are so yum and addictive because they contain too much sugar.  Sugar makes everything taste sweet and yum. And Our taste buds love sweet things. Sugar is used by our bodies to give us the energy to do the things we do every day. so it is useful but too much sugar for our body to handle is dangerous to our health and that's why we should ban fizzy drinks.     Fizzy drinks usually have too much sugar in them, I found that it has 9 teaspoons of sugar in one drink serving! I also learned that the body can also only store so much sugar away before the body begins to have problems.

Unhealthy
Because Fizzy drinks are so yum and addictive people are drinking too much and so they are filling their bodies with too much sugar.  Well, my second reason to ban fizzy drinks is because they can cause health problems such as weight gain, blood sugar problems called diabetes, heart strok and heart disease  it can also make your teeth go rotten. If you get rotten teeth from fizzy drinks your next visit is to the dentist, where you may need to have injections and have your teeth taken out!  There are doctors and scientists asking people around the world to stop drinking fizzy drinks because of the one hundred and eighty-four thousand people dying from diabetes per year. Fizzy drinks not only make people unhealthy but they can also make the earth itself unhealthy.

                           Pollution
Another thing that is not good about fizzy drinks is that the plastic bottles they are sold in, are found all over the land and oceans causing an enormous disaster for the environment.  If we banned fizzy drinks right now then we will find less pollution in the world and less plastic in the ocean. This would be good news for sea animals, land animals, and humans. During the long weekend, my cousins and I were playing schools where Dylin was the teacher. Dylin was telling us about the pollution in the world not just from fizzy bottles but other kinds of plastic related pollution. She said that plastic bags and plastic bottles that are burnt by people were polluting our world.  Burning plastic can cause the air to be toxic, therefore if you do that than the hole in the ozone layer which protects us from the suns strong sun rays can melt our ice. Polar bears won't be able to survive because they hunt for food on ice. And If there is no ice then the polar bears will starve.

To conclude my speech I have pointed out some key reasons about  why I think fizzy drinks should be banned. Fizzy drinks are far too yummy and addictive, they contribute to the unwellness of our bodies from too much sugar and they contribute to the unwellness of the earth from the pollution caused by their plastic packaging.

  Ending
If you don't want to become overweight, unhealthy and have a full ocean of sugar in your body then I suggest you get up and make a change with fizzy drinks and please save the world from pollution.

Te Reo strip

WALT: We are learning to extend our Te Reo by asking, answering and translating the Questions and answers in Te Reo Maori.
REFLECTION: I found this really fun and easy to make. I really liked asking, answering and translating the question and answers in Te Reo Maori. We couldn't use the simplest words in the poster like mama and papa.
